What we believe at North Hills Church about Jesus, the Bible, and the Church

Our Beliefs

JESUS CHRIST

Jesus Christ is at the center of everything. We believe that Jesus is the only one who can reconcile us to God. He lived a sinless and exemplary life, died on the cross in our place, and rose again to prove His victory and empower us for life. We believe that Jesus Christ is coming back again as He promised.

THE TRINITY

We believe that the God of the Bible is the one true God, who is the Creator and Ruler of all. We believe that as Creator and Ruler all authority belongs to Him. We believe that God’s nature exists in three persons: the Father, Son (Jesus) and Holy Spirit. We believe that each member of the trinity is fully God while uniquely distinct from the others. We believe That God’s presence creates, restores, and sustains all life.

The bible

We believe the Bible - both Old and New Testaments - is God’s word written by men whom the Holy Spirit inspired so we can understand the nature of God, His love for us, and His story as it is unfolding around us. We believe the Bible has been supernaturally preserved and humanly treasured in a way that brings it to us today without error or flaw. We believe the Bible is our ultimate source of truth defining God’s moral standard, God’s preference in worship, and wisdom to live by as God the Creator saw fit.

THE SEPARATION

We believe that men and women were uniquely created in God’s image to reflect His qualities, glorify Him and live in loving relationship with the Father. We believe that God breathed physical and spiritual life into man and sustains life through His presence. Yet, mankind has chosen to rebel and be fraudulent gods, deciding for themselves what is good or evil. In doing so mankind’s sin and rebellion has separated him from God, leading to spiritual death, relational death, and physical death.

THE RECONCILIATION

We believe that salvation and reconciliation to God comes from no one other than Jesus Christ. There is no way for a man to do enough good to restore his relationship with God and overcome the consequences of his sin. We believe Jesus’ crucifixion was the payment and atonement for our sin as he offered himself as substitute for the judgment and penalty of our sin. We believe that through a trusting faith and relationship acknowledging and declaring Jesus as our Savior and Lord that we can accept His free gift of grace. We believe this gift is offered to all mankind but that only some will choose to repent while others may remain in their rebellion deceived about their fate. We believe that those who accept Jesus’ gift of grace will live eternally with God while those who continue to reject God will be eternally separated from Him in Hell as a punishment for their rejection and rebellion.

THE CHURCH

We believe that the church is the bride of Christ made up of the body of believers. We believe the story of the church is a great romance unfolding as we prepare for the return of our Groom and thus a great celebration in eternity. During this preparation, the Church is instructed to be God's instrument in the world for healing and restoration. As a Church, we are to live out the great commission and love the world as Christ's ambassadors. The Church accomplishes this mission when we make disciples of Christ and equip the saints to love and minister to the world, multiplying his Kingdom through the hearts of men and women. In the Church, we cast off the enemy's deception of shame and gather together as one in identity with Christ. Therefore, as the local church, we use our time, talents, and resources to serve each other and the world ministering and encouraging believers and the lost. Scripture commands believers to gather regularly for worship, prayer, fellowship, the teaching of the Word, and to practice baptism and communion. Every local church is responsible to represent Jesus in this context to their community.
